Our journey began in 2013 with a heartfelt dream to showcase Uganda’s untouched beauty to the world. From the start, our mission has been to connect our guests with authentic East African experiences, ensuring that each safari leaves a lasting impact on our travellers and the communities we support.
We remain dedicated to crafting custom immersive safaris that inspire and transform. By travelling with Watalii Africa Safaris, you explore Africa and contribute to its preservation and uplift of its people.
Sitting in a noisy restaurant in 2013, Allan and Mark reflected on the people coming to Uganda to build homes for orphans. Most of them only saw Uganda’s struggles: the impact of HIV/AIDS, street children, and poverty.
But there’s more to this place. Beyond the streets and the challenges left by disease and war, there’s a vibrant wilderness where elephants roam freely, hippos bellow, and shoebill storks glide through the swamps. The playful energy of monkeys in the forest canopy is something special too and being the home to the endangered mountain gorillas.
That moment sparked an idea: why not introduce visitors to the beautiful, untamed side of our country? We named our company “Watalii,” Swahili for tourists, with the goal of showing more than just hardship—highlighting the incredible natural beauty and wonder of Africa and its people and diverse cultures despite the chaos around it. Watalii Safaris has over time evolved into multiple companies including gosafariz and Walemi in different parts of the worlds.
